Why Prints Matter in the Digital Age

In every civilization that has gone by there have been things that we were able to hold, to study, to learn from. We call these artifacts. Our generations may well be the first one without artifacts to pass on. Think I’m exaggerating? Where is most of your work located? Largely online, right? This is likely true of even your creative endeavors. Where do your photos of your children live? Largely online. Were ma laugh at previous generations and the time, money , and effort they went to in order to get their photos taken at department stores. The hair styles, backgrounds, and poses might make us cringe. But they knew something we don’t seem to understand today. Photography isn’t finished until it’s physical. If you have a digital copy , you have a moment that you recorded. That's all. When you have a printed copy? Now you have something tangible. Something truly “sharable”. Now you have an artifact.
